Our mission is to create safe spaces that combine the power of sport and education to empower youth and change lives.
Safe-Hub provides a physically and emotionally safe space for young people to access opportunities and support through soccer-based out-of-school-time programs that focus on personal development, health, education, and employment. We operate at Scanlon Recreation Center in Kensington/Harrowgate.
Our goal is to bring high-quality sports programming and supportive services to families, providing a one-stop-shop for families to receive support through the stigma-free circumstances of coming to soccer practice.
The Safe-Hub model was founded in South Africa in 2010, providing much-needed afterschool programming for young people in township areas established by the apartheid regime. Today, our colleagues in South Africa have established 11 Safe-Hubs serving over 30,000 young people and community members each year. Safe-Hub has also expanded operations to: Berlin, Germany; Delhi, India; Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire; and Philadelphia, USA!
Beginning in August 2020, the local Philly team activated Safe-Hub’s life-skills-through-soccer curriculum, first engaging 35 young people during the depths of COVID-19 and now reaching over 3,000 young people and family members from North Philadelphia.
